  • Time to Get the Verizon Tower Built
We just had a major fire, and thank God, no one was killed that we've found yet anyway.  Cell service in the valley stinks and it's even WORSE up north.  We need the tower and we need it NOW.  We NEEDED it for the fire, but selfish anti-technology interests are blocking it.

  • Something to think about
Wednesday (last week), the heavy hand of the Federal Government once again frustrated the will of the people. Judge Vaughn Walker overturned the part of the California Constitution that states that marriage is between a man and a woman as 'unconstitutional.'
  • Giant Step for Equality!
Thanks to Judge Walker of the CA Federal Court and the U.S. Constitution, the civil right of gays and lesbians to get legally married has been upheld – so still our marriage (myself and my spouse Raymond) remains legal in CA! The entire 135 page ruling is available online (just Google “Judge Walker’s Ruling”). On p. 135 the Judge states “…the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California Constitution the notion that opposite-sex couples are superior to same-sex couples. …California has no interest in discriminating against gay men and lesbians … Proposition 8 prevents California from fulfilling its constitutional obligation to provide marriages on an equal basis….” This ruling of the Federal Court IS based on EVIDENCE presented in a TRIAL, and if you read the entire ruling I think you will agree the ruling is based on scientific evidence and fact and opinion presented by expert witnesses for both sides. In the ruling it is stated “…moral disapproval, without any other asserted state interest, has never been a rational basis for legislation.” I do wish religious persons would LEARN this!
  • recent board vote to increase ceo's income
Frankly I'm appaulled at the recent vote to increase the salary of kvhd's CEO, at a time when overtime is frowned upon , but necessary to attend to the patients. The respiratory mgr took an hourly  cut to be allowed to hire a new employee. The radiology mgr had to do the same. CNA's were removed from acute care. ER techs hours were cut , and are mandated to go home early or come in late when its slow , never mind the probability they will be needed back. I feel that management has no conscious. The CEO and CFO Chet Bettle should be taking a pay cut of 10% , then they could afford patient care. I'm positive that the debt to Cal Mortage must be eliminated, but not convinced that ER needs another overhaul , especially when it doesn't increase the available bed size. Why not fill the skilled nursing facility to capacity ? I know that management is talking closing the doors unless this bond is passed , but that would be a travisty for our community , get rid of the fat at the top for starters.   sunny
